Dialogue & Exchange Activities between Women & Youth on Peace & Reconciliation Process in The Gambia

PRESS RELEASE

The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in collaboration with the Women Section of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) will hold a 3 day community outreach and radio talk show on Peace building and Reconciliation process in The Gambia from the 23rd – 25th January 2019, at Bwaim and Soma in the Western and Lower River Regions respectively.

The Community outreach which includes radio talk shows in the regions are activities under the project ‘Contribution to the Peace and Reconciliation process in The Gambia, through sensitization, dialogue and exchange activities between women and youth at community level’ funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) and being implemented by the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in collaboration with The Truth, Reconciliation and Reparation Commission (TRRC).

The objective of the Outreach and radio talk show is to promote cultural dialogue between women and youth people of different ethnic background on the urgency of supporting the peace and reconciliation process and also prevent present and as well as future conflicts between communities in the Gambia.

A Community Forum, in particular, will be held in Soma on Friday, 25th January 2019 and will bring together a cross section of the community including religious and traditional leaders, women, children, and young people. The Forum would focus specifically on, the Mandate of the TRRC, the role of the community in engaging with the TRRC as well as the role of the community in the building and maintenance of peace in our communities and promoting a culture of peace.
