Banjul, The Gambia – July 26, 2025
The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) has commenced its Governing Council Meeting today in Banjul, The Gambia. The two-day high-level meeting, running from July 26 to 27, brings together members of the Council and Advisory Committee to review the Centre’s institutional progress and define strategic priorities for the coming year.
This year’s session also serves as the official inaugural for newly appointed members of the Governing Council and Advisory Committee. The new members are joining the Centre at a critical juncture, as it intensifies its efforts to strengthen civic engagement, institutional governance, and regional partnerships.
The meeting will focus on evaluating the implementation of ACDHRS’s current work plan, financial management and sustainability frameworks, and the Centre’s contributions to human rights advocacy across the continent. Discussions will also cover operational oversight and stakeholder collaboration strategies.
The Governing Council Meeting is part of a broader calendar of events organized by ACDHRS in Banjul, including the NGOs Forum Steering Committee Meeting, Validation of Women’s Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) Report and a regional Human Rights training on Climate Action.
Deliberations will conclude tomorrow with the adoption of key decisions that will guide the Centre’s institutional and programmatic direction in the year ahead.
