Banjul, The Gambia — July 23, 2025 — The African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) will convene its Governing Council Meeting from 26th to 27th July 2025 in Banjul, The Gambia.
The Governing Council Meeting serves as the highest decision-making body of ACDHRS, bringing together members of the Council to deliberate on strategic priorities, institutional governance, programmatic performance, and sustainability of the Centre. The 2025 session will focus on reviewing the implementation of the Centre’s current work plan, financial and operational performance, and identifying opportunities for strengthening impact and stakeholder engagement across Africa.
This is an inaugural meeting for the new council members and will also provide an opportunity to assess progress on ACDHRS’s flagship initiatives, including its coordination of the NGOs Forum on the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, as well as its advocacy, capacity-building, and protection efforts in support of democracy and human rights defenders across the continent.
Participants will adopt key decisions on institutional policies and discuss ways to deepen partnerships with donors, regional mechanisms, and civil society networks. The meeting reaffirms the Centre’s commitment to transparent leadership, accountability, and innovation in promoting and protecting human and peoples’ rights in Africa.
