Promoters of democracy, human rights, and constitutionalism across Africa have issued a formal petition opposing the assumption of the Chairmanship of the African Peer Review (APR) Heads of State Forum by H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda.
This petition speaks to a broader continental concern: the normalization of democratic backsliding, militarized governance, and persistent human rights violations under the guise of leadership. The African Peer Review Mechanism must remain a guardian of democratic values, not a shield for their erosion.
We call on civil society organizations, human rights defenders, journalists, activists, youth movements, and concerned citizens to circulate this petition widely within your networks and raise your voices in defense of democracy in Africa.
The petition can be downloaded directly via the link below and shared across platforms, mailing lists, and community spaces.
Democracy thrives when citizens speak out. Let us act collectively to protect the integrity of Africa’s institutions and the aspirations of its people.
