Momentum is building for the NGOs Forum preceding the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), taking place in Dakar from 8–10 October 2026.
As preparations intensify, the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) is engaging key human rights institutions, civil society organisations and media partners in Senegal to build strong participation and visibility for the Forum.
The ACDHRS delegation held discussions with the National Human Rights Commission of Senegal, engaging its President, Prof. Amsatou Sow Sidibé, on the upcoming Forum and opportunities to strengthen collaboration and civil society participation.
The team also engaged SenTV and Zik FM, exploring ways the media can help bring the Forum and Africa’s human rights agenda closer to the public.
Engagement with NGO 3D further strengthened outreach to Senegalese civil society, with discussions focusing on local participation and the importance of ensuring that Senegalese organisations have a strong voice in the October gathering.
The delegation also met with RTS, Senegal’s public broadcaster, to explore opportunities for wider public awareness and coverage of the Forum and the human rights issues it will address.
As Senegal prepares to welcome civil society organisations and human rights defenders from across Africa and beyond, ACDHRS is working with national partners to ensure that the October Forum becomes a strong platform for dialogue, solidarity and collective action on human rights in Africa.
