The countdown is on. With just 10 days to go before the Forum of NGOs Participating in the 89th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), preparations are intensifying for what promises to be an important gathering of civil society organisations, human rights defenders and other stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.
The Forum, organised by the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS), will take place from 8 to 10 October 2026 at the Pullman Dakar Teranga Hotel in Dakar, Senegal, ahead of the 89th Ordinary Session of the ACHPR.
The three-day Forum will provide a platform for civil society organisations and human rights actors to exchange experiences, assess developments in human rights and democracy across the continent, and discuss emerging challenges affecting the protection and promotion of human and peoples’ rights.
As a key civil society platform preceding the ACHPR Ordinary Session, the Forum will also provide participants with an opportunity to engage on issues of continental and regional importance, share recommendations and strengthen advocacy around human rights protection mechanisms in Africa.
With participants expected from different parts of Africa and beyond, the Forum will create space for dialogue among civil society organisations, human rights defenders, experts and other stakeholders working across diverse thematic areas.
As the countdown reaches 10 days, ACDHRS is finalising preparations to ensure that participants have a meaningful platform for dialogue, networking and collective engagement. The Centre is also working with partners and media stakeholders to enhance visibility and public awareness around the Forum and its outcomes.
The Forum comes at a time when civil society organisations continue to play an important role in advancing human rights, democratic governance and civic participation across the continent. Discussions during the Forum will therefore contribute to broader efforts to strengthen collaboration and ensure that the voices and concerns of civil society remain part of Africa’s human rights discourse.
