We the participants at the Forum on the Participation of NGOs in the 32nd Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the 6th human Rights Book Fair, held at the Kairaba Beach Hotel in Banjul from October 14th –16th, 2002
Considering the mutiny that took place in Ivory Coast on September 19th, 2002 and the serious violation of human rights that ensued;
Condemning in the strongest terms, the unconstitutional methods of accession to power;
Recalling the Resolution of the African Commission adopted at the 28th Ordinary Session;
We call on:
The government and the rebel factions to lay down their arms;
The authorities to avoid being dragged into a military solution;
The government and all parties involved to clarify the exactions, particularly the extra judicial executions;
The African Commission to participate in the setting up of an international commission of inquiry into the violations of human rights committed in Ivory Coast
